Continuing from How to Start a Business (Part 1), this seminar
provides an overview of the various structural elements and issues
that every business must face: the Business Plan, Record Keeping
(for tax/inventory/accounting), Legal Structure, Financing the business
and Risk Management via Insurance (workers' comp and liability).
In How To Start A Business (Part 2) we cover:
• The various tax issues of which a business owner must be
aware, highlighting why a good accountant is an important part of
the management team.
• Understanding alternative methods that can be used to finance
your business.
• A review of upcoming seminars that will help you experience
a successful business start-up.
Speakers for this seminar include:
Terri
Carrelli, CPA is a graduate of UNCA with BA in Economics.
She earned her CPA in 1988. A member of AICPA and NCACPA since '89,
she began her career as an auditor with McGladrey and Pullen specializing
in small to midsize businesses. This was followed by association
with Brian C Hunter CPA P.A., specializing in small business and
accounting software consulting, tax returns and financial statement
preparation and tax planning. Terri is currently owner and principal

Richard
Newell BSBA (Univ. of FL), CPA (licensed in Florida since
1971). 7 years in public accounting with experience in SEC registrations
and periodic filing requirements. 30 years of enior management (Controller,
Treasurer, CFO, and President) of various companies, including wholly-owned
consulting firm, in the highly competitive lottery industry. Worked
with national and state governments worldwide in the establishment
and operation of successful gaming programs to generate funds for
good causes. Provided consulting services to companies desiring
to sell products and/or services to government authorized lotteries.
Assisted major commercial enterprises in the development of gaming
promotions to increase sales and profits.
Gene
Lambirth 35 years experience with a major international
petroleum corporation working primarily in the natural gas business
in a variety of engineering, operations and business development
roles. The business development roles involved analyzing new business
ventures from a technical, financial and commercial point of view
and acting as an “internal” business consultant within
the corporation to develop business plans for proposed start-up
ventures and business strategies for existing businesses.

Directions:
- Take I-40 to Exit 44 (coming from East or West)
- Turn right off the exit ramp.
- Go to 4th traffic light (do not count the light at the end of
the exit ramp).
- Turn left on Sand Hill Road (this is a 4-way intersection with
Asbury Road turning to the right)
- Go to second entrance on left (there is a sign identifying A-B
Tech Enka Campus)
- The Small Business Center is on the left at the far end of the
building.
- Room 2046 is on the second floor.
- There is ample parking
Inclement Weather Schedule:
When weather conditions are such that driving is hazardous, seminars
will be cancelled and rescheduled. Asheville SCORE will follow A-B
Tech's decision to cancel classes.
